Rum Three Ways

Rum Three Ways

#1 Enjoy it Straight

We love a fantastic rum cocktail, however in rum-producing nations, such as Cuba, Guyana and Jamaica, rum is often enjoyed neat to allow for a deeper appreciation of its flavours and texture. So how does one go about drinking rum neat? Start by picking out your favourite rocks glass and pour yourself a generous measure of rum. Depending on your preferences add a couple of ice cubes or a few drops of water.

Give the glass a swirl and inhale the aromas. If you’re drinking our Smoked Rum you’ll first notice its intense smokiness, followed by hints of apple, molasses and burnt treacle. The nose is punchy, but it is beguilingly smooth. If you’re opting for our Spiced Rum look out for a hit of toasted coconut, vanilla and molasses. When enjoying a tipple, it’s going to feel smooth, rounded full of aromatic allspice, a spike of chilli on your tongue, followed by a long, warming ginger finish.  And finally, our Honey and Rum, you’re going to get a reassuringly alcoholic nose embroidered with the floral scent of British summer, followed by rich peppery notes of the base rum that balance perfectly with English honey.  Take your time with each sip, enjoying the taste and texture of the rum.

#2 Get Cooking: Spiced Rum Sauce

Looking to jazz up your traditional Christmas pudding, then our Spiced Rum Sauce is perfect for you. We’ve chosen our favourite recipe, but feel free to add more rum to give your sauce an extra fiery kick.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons BB Spiced rum
  • 75 g butter
  • 60 g plain flour
  • 570 ml full-fat milk
  • 50 g caster sugar
  • 1 tablespoon double cream

Method:

Place 60g of butter into a saucepan with 60g flour and all of the milk. Whisk these ingredients together whilst cooking over a medium heat. Once it begins to thicken turn the heat right down and add in the sugar. Allow the sauce to cook for 10 minutes before adding the rum, remaining butter and 1 tablespoon cream.
